what an excellent video thanks paul
Nice video, Like ! ! !
good to see 134 nearly there but one question what happened to the new tender last time i saw it it had a cab over the front end at the cab as waether protection for running backwards now is all open.
The tender can has been modified to improve visibility while running tender first.
Really enjoyed this video, especially the old stories and old footage. I wonder if station master John Harrison was a relative? My grandfather was Chief Inspector at Liverpool Exchange Station John Henry(Jack)Harrison, my dad Ken was a Porter and guard in the 1940s (and loved the Festy!). I worked as a volunteer at Bala with Dave Black in the 1990s to early 2000s learning to fire and drive dream and Diesel locos. One of my favourite locos to drive was LILLA when she was there in 1992
Love Garretts ❤️. My pops was a driver of 59 class Garrett.
Great video! Always good to see Fred, he was the one that started me volunteering with the Civil Engineering dept
Fantastic. Very proud of the fantastic achievements of all the generations of volunteers and staff. As a family we are on the third generation of volunteers.
Congratulations 🎉 and a big thankyou to all the volunteers, and in the words of Mr. Grace, you have all done well !. Regard Ray.
Any idea when K1 will be visiting the railway again? Still waiting to see it on the railway.
K1 will be with us later in the year.
3.10 Whose engine is that?
It belongs on the Richmond Light Railway
Keith Catchpole RiP
Very well done film. I'd like to know how to obtain reservations, perhaps for 2025. Very good of the National Model Railroad Association (NMRA) to present this in their June Turntable communication to members. Hope fellow members of the 009 Society have an opportunity to share this as well. A big thanks to all involved in the production, good show all👍🚂🚃
I’m glad you enjoyed the video, the Snowdonian is a great day out. The 2025 version isn’t on sale yet but the best bet is to keep an eye on our website and our Facebook page where it will be announced. We post all our videos on the NGRM forum so a lot of 009 modellers see them there; maybe we should look at posting on the 009 Society website too. One of our team is a keen 009 modeller and a member.
Does 134 have an ash pan sprinkler? Handy to assist with the avoidance of line side fires.
31:29 Bless you!
Splendid stuff as usual 🙂
Good video, like !!!
With this net zero, whereby they are determined to ban petrol and diesel cars and by the looks of things EVs not being successful we may see a return to railway travel throughout the country in the near future
134 looks good great job can't wait to see her run
Oh that NG15................WOW!!!!
Now for 133 😈
Just as soon as any necessary tweaks are identified from experience with No.134 .... and the slight matter of a six figure sum being raised!!!
This the most amazing project I've seen in a long time! I can't wait to ride behind her!
Just awesome
Honestly like the white banding on 134 even if it's just tape to protect the banding
That NG15 locomotive looks great, so far, so good.
Regarding Mountaineer and speculation about when certain parts were fabricated, fixed etc. . . . Shouldn't each loco have some kind of service history documenting these things? Plus drawings, photos, video.
These days documentation is standard practice but in earlier decades not so much.
@@FfestiniogWelshHighland Thanks, glad to hear it.
What is the utilitarian diesel seen at about 4:39?
It is a Dick Kerr. Built for use in WW1.
@@FfestiniogWelshHighland Thanks. I've seen old b & w pics, I had no idea one still existed. A magnificently austere and uncompromising machine. Is it operational? If not, can it be made so?
You would need to ask the engineers at the Vale of Rheidol. I imagine the plan would be to retire it to running order if at al possible. A great looking loco and a historically important one too.
Have an awesome first week of June!! 👌👌☺☺
Same to you.
very good talk about the cab controls
Another good video. Jon mentioned quite a few of your subcontractors and I did think that adding some clips in from their works e.g. casting Linda's cylinder blocks would provide some variety. I am sure that they would provide the footage for the publicity so it isn't as though you'd need to send a camera man.
Will the battery locos be redesigned like Vale of Ffestiniog was with a more conventional and appealing cab?
They are still very much experimental projects so we will see what happens. Watch this space.
Being patially-sighted, I enjoy John's verbal narrative(and others). I am finding it more and more difficult to read sub-titles. Keep up the good work and thanks for a great update!
Oh boy, can I ever sympathise with that comment. The day won't be too far off when I can no longer enjoy the way the subtitles go into complete meltdown over words Cymraeg!
Gwaith da hogia
Da gweld Blodge yn ôl ar flaen y gad ym maes peirianneg (y gyriant terfynol plastig cylchoedd gêr).
What's the plan for the battery locos? Maintenance locos?
That’s the initial plan.
@FfestiniogWelshHighland can't wait to see them all painted, up and running.
@@FfestiniogWelshHighland The South Tynedale Railways electric locos are used on passenger services. They are smoke-free and very quiet. Passengers can enjoy the sounds and smells of the countryside without the growl of a diesel or coal smut in their eye, and wildlife is not alarmed by the train.
Unfortunately these won't have the power to haul our trains on the mainline and they also have a comparatively slow top speed. Who knows what the future holds though?
@@FfestiniogWelshHighlandWhatever else, they're going to be a great 'first toe in the water' and allow the F&WHR to begin formulating accurate questions relevant to design of any eventual frontline loco. As both lines have considerable capacity for regenerative braking, perhaps that day isn't so far away? Right now, I'd hold my horses pending (a) solid state batteries and (b) hyrdrogen fuel cells with sufficient operating life (currently a fourfold increase in their working life is the 'buzz' in the industry). Is that old 'General Undertaking' hydro plant building from PB&SSR days still standing?
Yet another glimpse as to the reasons why this subject is so popular! Everybody likes an inside look at the sheer amount of hard work that goes on behind the scenes of one of Wales' and the UK's premier narrow-gauge lines. Thanks, Jon.
great footage of two ladies trying their hand at driving a Quarry loco.
how many passenger cars can Lyd pull? I understand that the originals could mange eight
Lyd is rated at 8 carrs on the FfR and 5 on the WHR. It currently hauls 7 Carr trains.
Please, please put her back in FR Green with Red lining? She looked superb in the 1980s in those colours. Everything seems to be shades of Maroon these days, all very nice, but The ALCO looked great in Green with her big Red nameplates! Excellent job so far, cant wait to see her running once more. You will probably finish her before I complete my 16mil model I started in the late 1980s
38:09 That is such an adorable bit of infrastructure, with the line going over the bridge around the loop under itself with the Welsh hills in the distance beyond.
It was built by volunteers so that the ‘deviation’ line could gain enough height to bypass a flooded part of the line. We’re very proud of it and it is unique in the British isles.
@@FfestiniogWelshHighland Wow I see. Even more impressive then.
Great video. Like me .
Great video! Only visited the VoR and FR in April and am already missing them. I wonder, when was the last time there were 5 locos at Rhiw Goch simultaneously?
Splendid stuff - as usual! I've still got loads of videos from the weekend to edit and upload to my channel; the first three are on, but not up to your standard of course.
Good video, like!!!
Very good - well worth a watch even without keeping up to date on what's happening. The advent of DIY aerial shots makes a big difference, as does the quality of image - even whilst in motion - from today's sensitive but portable cameras.
Glad you enjoyed it. We try to make sure there are plenty of good views of the trains in the countryside as well as the more ‘nuts and bolts’ chapters.
@@FfestiniogWelshHighland was Felinheli being operated by the General Manger of the Ffestiniog and Welsh Highland railway. his Chauffer looked familiar too
It's been my dream since I was little to visit these railways. I hope to do so soon.
I think this every time I watch one of these, but this time I'm going to say it: the quality of your videos is astonishing! There are broadcasters out there that could learn a thing or two. I'm dead impressed.
Thank you. 🙏🏻
Excellent as always. The drone footage was stunning!
The sheer dedication surrounding this railway is exemplified by the work of the video team - in the past year or so, they have clearly been looking at how to raise their already impressive game and bring us new ways to tell the stories - the fact that all this solid footage has been assembled into such a pleasing whole in seemingly not much more than 72hrs speaks volumes - well done! \m/
We rode both your railways in 2019. It is delightful to view these videos from our home in Oregon, USA. Keep them coming as I know you will.
Glad you enjoy them. Many thanks.
I think Google might have it wrong: it translates the Welsh name of Devil's Bridge as " a bridge on a monk"!!
That's because the Welsh older name (than the current tourism marketing) name refers to the monks of Strata Florida who probably built the bridge in the 12 Century.
VoR loco in black with lion & wheel crests and a carmine & cream rake; the other train in GWR colours: absolutely love it!
